Penang, 17 February 2022 – SELGATE Corporation Sdn Bhd through its healthcare arm, SELGATE Healthcare Sdn Bhd, has forged an alliance via a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MTT Properties & Development Sdn Bhd, the master township developer of Botanica. CT to jointly develop a private specialist hospital in Bandar Baru Air Putih, Balik Pulau.
Representing SELGATE Healthcare were Executive Director Noor Hisham Mohd Ghouth and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Muaz Omar. Meanwhile, signing on behalf of MTT Properties were its Group Chairman of MTT Group of Companies, Dato’ Seri Kenny Ong Kean Lee and CEO, Ir. Khoo Teck Chong. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Noor Hisham said, “SELGATE envisions to be one of the leading private healthcare operators in Malaysia and we are striving to provide quality healthcare that is affordable at the same time to fill up the gap in underserved areas.”
“This partnership signifies a historic milestone for SELGATE as part of our exercise to build capacity and capability by having a new stream of services to strengthen our financial footing via diversification of our operations and thus revenue stream.”
Noor Hisham also added that the company will operate seven hospitals with approximately 1000 beds over the next five years. SELGATE’s first hospital in Rawang is expected to start its operations early next year to serve the increased demand in high-quality healthcare services.
Dr Muaz Omar said that under the MoU, both parties will set up a collaboration for the purpose of materialising the project.
“This will include jointly contributing our expertise and specialties to acquire the land, private specialist hospital master planning and development,” he said.
Dato’ Seri Kenny Ong Kean Lee said that MTT Properties & Development has allocated five acres of land for its first venture into healthcare and is a collaboration that will provide the first private specialist hospital in Balik Pulau. The partnership with SELGATE Healthcare Sdn Bhd marks a historic milestone which continues to enable its journey towards becoming a fully self-sustaining township. This hospital will not only be able to provide quality healthcare to the township; but will also extend to the Balik Pulau and other neighbouring communities at large.
“The private specialist hospital will also serve to further enhance our first integrated aged care facility, Eden @ Botanica CT which will be launched later this year.” said Dato’ Seri Kenny Ong.
Ir. Khoo Teck Chong also expressed that the MoU is another major milestone for MTT Properties and the venture will not only provide the best healthcare facilities but will also create direct and indirect employment opportunities for the locals at Balik Pulau.
The signing ceremony Member of Parliament Balik Pulau Dato’ Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik saw gracing the occasion with his presence along with the City Mayor of Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang Dato’ Yew Tong Siang.
